Acting for social utility

Building a city where everyone has a place, a source of social connections and economic development: this key challenge of “living together” is becoming even more important in the context of social and real estate crises. At Altarea, we develop solutions and projects across all our business lines to promote social cohesion, local development and regional transformation.

In a context of deteriorating purchasing power, Altarea is taking concrete action to ensure that young people and low-income households can continue to own real-estate property. Our belief: starting from the real needs of residents and building homes in line with their resources, their expectations and the average size of households, which has fallen sharply over the last fifty years. This is the point of our affordable housing offer, Access , which once again makes homeownership possible for first-time buyers.

We are also actively developing spaces designed for the most vulnerable populations: students, seniors or low-income households, with significant activity in social and intermediate rental housing. Altarea also has a strong presence in deprived city neighbourhoods.

Facilitating social cohesion also means connecting people of all backgrounds and ages. This is a key consideration in our intergenerational housing solutions, sports and cultural facilities and third spaces that we integrate into our mixed-use neighbourhoods. It is also illustrated in our shopping centres, which are designed to be real living spaces, and our enhanced service offers (collaborative spaces, restaurant brands, etc.) in business properties .

As a long-standing partner of local authorities, Altarea is well aware of their challenges and helps to improve their attractiveness. We are contributing to the revitalisation of regions everywhere, for example, by restoring the heritage of city centres, creating new neighbourhoods and developing business parks and logistics platforms. We also enable everyone to access essential local shops and services, in the areas of education, health, food and culture.

Our activities are also a driver for local employment, creating 46,500 direct and indirect jobs. By generating significant tax revenues for the regions, municipalities and departments, Altarea is also a major contributor to financing the local economy. Nearly 80% of its purchases are made from local companies.

To prepare for the future, Altarea provides concrete solutions to regions facing two fundamental challenges: digital sovereignty and the energy transition. Through our data centre expertise , we are developing a network of next-generation data centres: sovereign, responsible and local, as well as a “hyperscale” offer for major international players in Artificial Intelligence and the Cloud.
Through its renewable energy development and production activities, Altarea supports local authorities, businesses, the agricultural sector and landowners in their energy transition.
